The Selknam Footprint
Tierra del fuego is an island separated from the american continent, which has two forms to access from a ferry from Punta Arenas; crossing three bridges and Primera Angostura's crossing
FIRST DAY
Departure from Punta Arenas in the direction of First Narrow (Primera Angostura), which imply traveling by land about 170 kilometers from Punta Arenas before reaching Punta Delgada.
The crossing by ferry will last approximately 20 minutes and will be accompanied by a collation type box lunch, then we'll sail in Blue Bay (Bahía Azul) traveling by car for a half hour to get to Hostería Tunkelen for lunch and then to Cerry Sombrero's locality and finally go to Bahía Lomas.
Cerro Sombrero, capital of the district of Primavera, is an attractive location known as an oil camp, designed by American architects and planners in 1950's decade.
In Cerro Sombrero we will visit the church and the main square with its monument to the oil worker, we will also visit the museum of the city to entering in the life of the first habitants of Tierra del Fuego: selknam.
Reserve Hemispheric Shorebird in 2009. Located in Bay Catalina, is the southernmost wetland in Chile, a must-see natural attraction that is world class and is recognized in the world for hosting thousands of birds that come every year, with migration of over 15,000 km, and we will find whales also occupy part of the coast as a slipway.
We are going to hike through Bahía Lomas, and we can take pictures of wildlife found, then we go back to Hostería Tunkelen in 40 minutes, they are going to be waiting for us with a typical Magellan dinner to prepare for the next day where we will visit the town of Tres Arroyos with its Selknam vestiges.
SECOND DAY
Early in the morning we are going to have an American breakfast and then we will lead us for the international road which will last about 45 minutes in the morning. Our first stop is Tres Arroyos, one of the most important archaeological sites located approximately 10 minutes from the nearest town, San Sebastián. In the locality of Tres Arroyos its located Los Ona's hill or La Tosca's mountain, which should be a point of attraction for these hunters Selknam. Above the hill its located the cave Tres Arroyos that has a major cultural evidence of these ancient southern habitants dating from 11.000 years ago.
We are going to walk inside of the cave and around the streams and then we return to the vehicle through Onaisin sector where the gracería of Puerto Nuevo it worked. Here we can see remains of the facilities and numerous machines.
Continuing our tour, we will travel about 1 hour and fifteen minutes to reach the locality of Marazzi, sighting the river of the same name where we are going to have a picnic and we will finish our tour visiting the King Penguin Park, the only place of sighting South America, so their goal is the conservation and protection of king penguins and other species and cultural resources that are in the place.
Finally, late at night we still have to travel 45 minutes to get to Parador Russfin where they will be greeted with a comforting traditional dinner called asado al palo.
THIRD DAY
American breakfast at Parador Russfin to then go in the vehicle one hour to reach Pampa Guanaco, then take our bikes and go to Lake Desire.
The bike road will be contrasted geographically in the south for the Darwin's Cordillera and in the north for the steppe. Large forests of lenga and Magellanic coigüe are going to be with us in this journey, without forget the flashy guanacos that give the name to the place.
Arriving at Lake Desire we will find the Lodge with the same name where we are going to lunch.
Lake Desire is surrounded by forests of lenga in a pristine place where the landscape overwhelms and invites you to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet. We are going to realize the activity of sport fishery, because here we can find brown and rainbow trout of approximately 2 kg, but for those who don's want to make this activity can rest.
Late at night there will be a bonfire accompanied a roast on Lake Desire to enjoy legends unknown about the Selknam.
FOURTH DAY
We are already nearing at the end of our tour, we are going to have american breakfast and then we are going to drive to Karukinka Park and there we will take our bikes for a tour along with hiking and we are going to observe most of this great forest with all its fauna.
There will be a picnic type lunch to recover and then we will ride with our bycicles to Fagnano's Lake or Kami's Lake in Selknam language, which mean big water, it's from glacial origin and it has it's flow in fjord Almirantazgo through Azopardo's River. In Lake Fagnano we will make the kayak activity accompanied by all nature of the place, there will also be the possibility of fishing in the area.
Finally we are going to realize an activity recreating the Hain Ceremony with our bodies painted in the lakeshore, every tourist will choose what spirit want to be to paint themselves, all this accompanied by a brief introduction about what was the Hain ceremony, at the foot side of Lake Fagnano is the Cabin Genkowsky where Magellan dinner is going to be waiting for us to finish the day.
FIFTH DAY
After splendids days exploring and knowing our island with all its flora and fauna, having enjoyed an extreme experience with the kayak and contemplative ride with our bikes, we will pick our tourists in the transfer to the cottages where they stayed, to reach the city of Poervenir where a plane is going to take you to the city of Punta Arenas with conection to arrive in the capital of Santiago.
